How Hungry are You?

This is a video by Eric Thomas, who is a motivational speaker, and I have to admit that he is a pretty good one!

Because in the video below he is delivering a high powered speech on the secret to success.
It definitely motivated me to get off my butt and at least start trying.

Lets Makey Everything!

We live in a world of life hacks and finding new shortcuts to do something simple or complex. Designed by two graduate students at MIT Media Lab, MaKey MaKey is an invention kit for the 21st century. It turns everyday objects into touch pads and combine them with the internet. It's a simple invention kit for beginners and experts doing art, engineering, and everything in between. Its a great start for kids to learn and invent simple things and for experts to build prototypes in days instead of weeks.

How Does it Work?

The kit comes with a simple circuit board, Alligator clips and a USB cable.
The Alligator Clip two objects to the MaKey MaKey board. For example, you and an apple.

When you touch the apple, you make a connection by completing the circuit, and MaKey MaKey sends the computer a keyboard message. The computer just thinks MaKey MaKey is a regular keyboard (or mouse). Therefore it works with all programs and webpages, because all programs and webpages take keyboard and mouse input.
The are endless possibilities, you can make it into a game controller, you can even make music by connecting different objects to MaKey MaKey. Ever thought of a banana piano? I bet not!

Lets enjoy some music made using vegetables through Makey Makey

A patch that makes you invisable.....to mosquitos!

The mosquito is the worlds deadliest animal, killing more than 700,000 people a year! Mosquitos carry many life threatening diseases such as malaria and West Nile viruses among a range of others. Some sprays are very effective in killing mosquitos, but they contain deet which is toxic, there are other non-toxic solutions available too but not as effective.

However, now researchers based in California have come up with another solution, a small patch which you can wear on your clothes like a sticker. It protects you for up to 2 days after getting exposed to air.

It works in such a way, that it exudes a scent which masks the carbon dioxide exhaled by humans - that’s the major method by which the insects track down their human prey.

Kite is currently raising finds on Indiegogo - a crowd sourcing platform, and has proven very successful. The funding goal of $75,000 was met in just four days, with the total currently sitting at approximately $236,000. A pledge of $10 will send a pack of five Kites to a family in Uganda, while $35 will send 10 patches and also get you 10 of your own. An estimated retail price has yet to be established.

My Starbucks Idea

My Starbucks Idea is a customer insight portal, this initiative allows customers to voice their opinions about any new idea which Starbucks can implement or any change and improvement they would like to see at Starbucks.

Users can submit their ideas regarding employees, coffee or merchandise. Ideas are then rated by points and reviewed by Starbucks employees, and after rigorous filtering some ideas are eventually implemented

In a few months the portal has received thousands of entries, and the ideas range from recyclable cups to new products that Starbucks should introduce.

This is a great initiative from Starbucks in order to learn their consumer's mindset as well as creating a treasure trove of ideas!
